Deerhoof..The Hottest Band in Stuttgart!!

Posted almost 3 years ago

I usually don't blog much (too lazy, but I must give another post for Deerhoof...

The mighty Deerhoof came to Stuttgart the other night and gave a fantanstic show. This was the first show from them for me and hopefully not the last time I get a chance to catch them. The weather was unusually humid during the show and the steam was pouring off the stage (they were literally the Hottest Band on the planet that night).

I won't go into the set list too much, although most of the set came from the last 2 Cd's, with some great bits from the past and a few covers.

What I really want to do is comment on is how good this band is, and how especially how much of an impact Ed Rodriguez has made on the band. Starting from the top, the drummer, Greg Saunier, is probably the best rock drummer out there and I would easily compare him to Stewart Copland at his peak, and maybe even better with such a small kit. He is simply the best drummer in rock. John Dieterich on lead guiter is probably a cross between Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead) and Robert Fripp. Satomi on bass and vocals is the unique signature of this band. She is tiny, but she brings it!! I was probably suprised how good of a bass player she was. Then the "new guy" Ed on co-lead guitar. Ed Rodriguez has made an already great band even better. The live sound is absolutely electronic!!! Although I had not seen them before, it also seens that Ed's energy gets Satomi going as well...They totally rocked the house!!!

Even if you not sure about Deerhoof and their experimental side, I would recommend their live show to anyone who appreciates great music....

Cheers to Deerhoof!!
