Here I am, stuck at home on a Friday night (but I did get my driver's permit today- watch out). So I've decided to write about one of my favorite albums of all time.
For those of you not familiar with VH1's Stroytellers series, they get some well known songwriters, like Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan (I think), and have them perform live, while giving the stories behind some the songs beforehand. Anyways, I was very fortunate to get my hands on a copy of Tom Waits playing on the program. Those of you that know anything about Tom Waits have probably put two and two together and started salivating at the idea. Because, Tom Waits + Storytelling = Interesting. No matter what.
This was certainly no exception. I've played the beginnings of these songs for people who don't even liked Tom Waits, and watched them laugh until they cried. From telling of a friend who drove a girl home reverse on a Pasadena freeway at 3 AM to watching a man die from an electric toilet snake, then be resurrected, all the stories are pure gold.
And the song performance certainly aint too shabby, either. Every time I hear this version of "Hang Down Your Head," I think of how amazing it would be to leave behind a legacy that like his, one that you know will always be timeless.
Waits fans, GET YOUR HANDS ON THIS!!!!! I can't stress that enough.

Thanks Hmmm I'll be grabbing this ASAP! I've been wanting to see Tom live for years. Last time he was in this neck of the woods a ticket agency screwed me over, promising seats that never materialized. I was so pissed........
