PAN FOR GOLD. WE'VE GOT ORE GALORE.

It's a Small, Strange World

Posted over 2 years ago
So I stepped out of drum lessons today, and I decided to give "This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About" by Modest Mouse a first spin. "Dramamine" comes on, and I'm hooked. I look to my left, and I notice a huge amount of smoke. Coming from the direction of my house. I start to walk across the desert towards the flames (very Jim Morrisson-esque). All the while, the possibilities are running through my head. Is it my house? A friend's? Maybe the nearby elementary school?Fast forward fifteen minutes, when I'm about half a mile from my house. Smoke fills my lungs, and there's an acrid smell. I start to notice a huge amount of traffic. Like what you'd expect to find on a freeway, not on residential roads. I'm getting a lot of weird looks as the kid holding drumsticks walking down the side of the road TOWARDS the flames. Well, yeah, it might just be MY house. All these cars give an eerie feel, like it might be the end of the world or something. Helicopters are hovering low overhead. Then my own father zooms past me, seemingly without noticing me. All the while, Modest Mouse provides a scarily insane soundtrack.I run into my house, thankfully still standing, and switch on the news. A 3 alarm fire just down the street, house completely destroyed by a propane explosion, though thankfully no injuries. That Modest Mouse album is never going to sound the same. And this image, creepily, also came to mind:Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

  2. Lizziegreeneyes says When I was in Wash State - the house down the street from us burned down to the ground because the mother left the curling iron on... way back in the day when these things didn't have auto shut offs. I can't even tell you how glad I am you & your family are ok... I had this knot in my stomach while I read this - thinking back to everyone standing a safe distance & watching the house burn down. Dramamine - may have to try this before a long road trip I hate motion sickness ;)

  4. Hmmm says Oh yeah, I forgot to also mention that "Dramamine" also has almost the exact same drum pattern my teacher had just showed me- adding an extra surrealistic dimension to the whole experience Anna- Seriously! Lizzie- Thanks for the concern, and Modest Mouse is essential to any road trip : ) Ashley- Definitely an album worth checking out!

  7. Anonymous says wow, what an experience to assosiate the new album with - amazing! love the new album btw, I'd say of you were gonna have that experience that Modest Mouse is right, glad no one was injured. That's very scary. There was an electrical fire 2 years ago at my bro's house early morning and it consumed the house and almost took his life if the neighbors hadn't called the fire department... Good thing it wasn't your home
