WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Baaaack....

Ok, I've been away from Mog for probably a week or two, battling dragons and demons (in the form of spyware infections), and I'm glad to be back. Anyways, during my hiatus, I discovered a new love: Surf music. I was listening to an old favorite, the Ziggens, who normally do a sort of surf punk thing, when all of the sudden I heard them do an all-out surf riff the likes of which have not been heard since Dick Dale. Seeing as I've never actually been surfing, it reminded me of the good old skating days, when you and a bunch of bros would roam around town on a hot summer day. So, here's the question: does anyone know anymore good Surf music? Something worthy of a video like this (because that's going to be me on my first try, of course)

  6. ivylander says If you can find any cuts by a mid-80s all-instrumental surf revival band called the Raybeats, dive in. Especially "Tight Turn" and "B-Gas Rickshaw." It's a little weirder than standard surf music, but that's good, right?

  7. Anna says Welcome back, Joshy! Oh. My. Kapranos. I'm trying to comprehend the height of that wave & how the surfer rode it. Oh my. I think my jaw dropped to the ground (help!).

  8. Lizziegreeneyes says Is it Laird Hamilton in the video, Josh ??? He's the guy who thought up the jetski to the gigundo waves way off the coast ... it looks like the painting Eddie Vedder made for him after seeing the photo taken of Laird riding that monster !!! Total insanity, beautiful to witness - will never do it ... :) I agree on the Jack Johnson tip - he's mellow and lovely - sings me to sleep a lot in the summer months :) (But definitely check out Bossinova) !!!

  9. Dale says (picks up Anna's jaw) Sorry dear, you'll collect flies like that. :D I'm kicking myself, because I used to have a few vinyl albums when I was in HS from some local California surf bands. I could at least give you band names that way.

  10. Lord Alfreston says I never fail to be knocked out by that clip, It's the opening shot from Billabong Odyssey the quest to ride the 100 foot wave. Unbelievable. Although putting this shot at the beginning means there's no need for the rest of the movie. I surf in Cornwall but nothing ever that big. How about Highway to Hell by AC/DC?

  15. mutterimieli says I watched this rad video several times and listened to different songs from Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu. It's not quite surf music but definitely Hawaiian and goes beautifully with the footage. He did a couple of songs on the Lilo and Stitch Soundtrack. I have his album World which is totally amazing as well as the two songs he did for the soundtrack, He Mele No Lilo and Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride. But that wave is definitely the epitome of the Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride!
