Kelly Clarkson's new album and Katy Perry's best

All I Ever Wanted / One Of The Boys

Even without listening to a single second of Kelly Clarkson's album "All I Ever Wanted" you can tell it's the extreme opposite of "My December". The jelly colored cover says it all. Her third album might be a little boring, but it was honest and heartfelt. But one thing it wasn't: commercial. The same can't be said when it comes to her brand new single "My Life Would Suck Without You" wich is so very noisy and so not her.

Yes, that's what I think about this album, in general. It's annoyingly noisy. Even some songs like "Don't let me stop you" that could be cool, are ruined, because they sound trashy. "Save you" could make a lot of people tear up, if it were more original.

Anyway, Kelly has some new unmistakeble influences. I'd bet my right hand as she, or someone who writes for her, has been listening to a lot of Destiny's Child. If you don't believe me, take a good listen to "Tip of my tongue", "The day we fell apart" and "Can we go back". They're so "girls-bandy"
But (thank goodness) not all is innovation; "Ready" takes as back to the good "Breakaway" times and "All I ever wanted" to "My December". "Cry" is old Kelly too. The lyrics are good, but the melody in the chorous is just like any other "safe" balad.

Above it all, I think "All I Ever Wanted" is a tired, pretensly joyfull record; made only to save Clarkson from being forgotten, after the pained "My December". What I don't understand is why it is so unispired. "Breakaway" had some fun tracks. Is she worn out?

On a related subject, there's Katy Perry. Our favourite party girl has a cute voice, but probably never had a singing lesson in her life. The thing about her is really her songs. Original, she is fun, but keeps her class. I think our ears needed someone like her, for a change.

So why are two of her best songs on Kelly Clarkson's CD? "Hook Up" and "Long Shot", along with "Cup of Coffe" are my favourite songs by her, and she gave two away and never released the third one. They could make of "One of the Boys" an exquisite CD; instead, it settels for "good", with those irrelevant tracks only the excellent CDs don't have. If I knew Katy Perry I would have suggested "Hook Up" instead of "Fingerprints", "Cup Of Coffe" instead of "Lost" and "Long Shot" instead of "I'm Still Breathing".
