Sweets for the girls #2

Posted over 4 years ago

Strike #2. We already went french, now we stay there a little. Take the electro out, put some velocity and boogie-woogie in.The Atomic Café released three volumes of "French Cuts" - French beat and pop from the 60s. The compilation is awsome as it is. I re-compile the already awsome compilation. Whenever I'm in need of some help for the dancefloor, this here is a sure-shot. Drop the bomb!

Les Cornichons is a song of Nino Ferrer about the ingredients of a good picnic. If you talk French, try to sing it. It's hard as hell to keep up with his speed and he has some problems too, what makes it even more funny.

  3. soulrocket says yessss... nino ferrer totaly rules. also worth checking tracks are "le telefon", "le roi d'angleterre" and "mirza". all those tracks you posted had their italian/spanish/german versions.

  4. moovyphreak says There's a version of "Zozoi" on that "Cafe Roma 2" CD I posted about over the weekend. I don't have access to my music right now, but when I do, I'll post that version.

  5. Hermes says Mirza is also on the French Cuts compilation. The other two are not. I think I have to get more of him. I have a huge amount of Serge Gainsbourg, but hardly anything of Nino.

  6. soulrocket says here i bring nino ferrer - le roi d'angleterre. lyrics are fun. le roi d'angleterre declare la guerre, sur mair et sur terre, au roi du peru.. madame josephine, ? le strichnine... he was on the soul/beat side, a genius. ~QmQed130Qkz.mp3~ also le telefon, another soul-pop great tune with top-notch lyrics ~yIp59W6Ysv4.mp3~ you showed great taste (as usual) by posting on nino ferrer, man. well done!

  7. Hermes says Haha and wow, that was raw. And he's a comedian too. Never heart these two tracks. And btw: it was not my taste, it was the taste of the guys, who compiled the French Cuts. Else I never would have found these songs. And a part of your plaudit goes to the guy who played it in a bar around here, who made me thus aware of the compilation - pure chance. Are you still djing anywhere soulrocket? I'd like to stop by with paper and pencil ;)

  8. soulrocket says nino is the man. that was your taste, man. the other people only pointed you in the right direction. i dj very occasionally, like once a month or so... i still have fun doing it, but im not as excited about it as i used to be. i used to dj as much as posible before and hanged out at the clubs every single weekend of the year, so maybe thats why i keep it to a low profile these days. i got too much of it. also gf is kind of chilli & weekends are the only time we can spend fully together.

  10. mktackabery says hmm, i see all the women in your world wear pink, copious amounts of liquid black eyeliner and bear a conspicious lack of brains Hermes.

  11. Hermes says Ahh, all this pink around me ... sweeet ;). Btw: the new goth-punk generation - kind of hype right now amongst teenies here - actually mixes pink with black. Sacrilege! I mean classic would be a deep bordeux red - but pink !?! I hope that this wave will pass by quite fast and they will find another playground. Thanks god, I've not seen those youngsters on the big gothic events here. I hope they are frightened off the big goths and stay away.

  12. fistula spume says It's all really great stuff. I kind of wore my wife out on Nino Ferrer a couple of years ago. I don't think she's ready to return but I love these tracks. Gonna have to make a note of this album. Thanks Hermes. Great post.

  13. esc says yes. nino was one of my first posts! =)

  14. Hermes says Fistula: in this case, it's a bad idea to put such a track on the compilation. Well, but the series is really great. Contains also a few previously unreleased tracks, but really only few. (1,2,3 ?). Glad, you like that. esc: Huh, didn't see that post, sorry. Also a great track. Did he make any bad songs?
