YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

Tomorrow (Sat.): Balanço @ Guanabara (London)

Posted about 1 year ago

Tomorrow once again Balanço will take place at the Guanabara in Soho. I'll most probably go there, as the last time was a real treat for my eyes and ears. They play only Brazilian music wich ranged the last time from Brazilian Jazz and Soul over Brazilian HipHop and didn't end with a live Samba group. Tomorrow the sound wil get a bit more funky as it seems.

Guanabara

That's what their "webpage":http://www.guanabara.co.uk says about tomorrows event:

Producers Franco & Irfan extend the success of their Manchester midweekly residency Balanço to London, bringing a definitive sound from their native Brazil all the way to London. And LIVE: SARAVAH SOUL, this half-brazilian, half-british outfit creates a new genre of RAW AFRO-BRAZILIAN FUNK! Fronted by fiery break dancer Otto Nascarella, the intensity of their live shows has earned them a reputation for wild performances and a rapidly expanding fan base. The band seems set on an unstoppable rise to even wider acclaim.

So, if you're around in London and like Brazilian music, check it out. This club series get's my full recommendation.

"Here's":http://www.guanabara.co.uk their webpage.

"Here's":http://www.saravahsoul.com/ the "link":http://www.saravahsoul.com/ to Saravah Soul.

P.S.: They play every single day in the week Brazilian music, as the bouncer told me last time and I hardly could believe it. But that's what they do!

Am I living near the musical capital of Europe or what?

That sounds and looks awesome Hermes.  That song you posted is bad ass.  Wish I could go.  I think I'm in the "let's all play southern blues rock" capital.  Not saying that's such an awesome thing either.  I think Ivylander would like this a lot.

Max, I'm looking out for you :). We will go there also rather early. They already begin at 5:30 pm and entry is free until 8. And the whole thing end's at 2:30. But you know about the last trains ..

Fistula, that would be 100% up on Ivy's alley. I have no idea about southern blues rock. Did you post anything of this type? The song is one of my favorite Brazil tunes, that I discovered lately. I'm not so convinced of the rest of his album, but I didn't listen thoroughly enough to it yet to have a real opinion on that.

Rawk: Good boy ;). But I have to admit, that they don't lack customers there, at least not on the weekends. The city is luckily big enough to provide enough exile Brasilians and Braziophilians to keep the club alive as it seems.

Got there 7.30ish, and out again halfway through the set due to grumpy date. Liked the band. Lots of hen nights though. I'm sure the venue gets a bit more interesting after midnight.

You were there? I was looking out for you, but didn't see you. You're right regarding the hens ;). The last time there was no hen night. That they hardly played Brazilian Soul this time was a bit of a pity - a bit too much HipHop and "pure" Samba in my opinion.

I also left after midnight to another club and made a little night walk through London - lovely city.

Crazy, that I didn't see you, I was really on the lookout for you ... is your picture up-to-date? On the other side it was quite stacked .. . The next time one of us should wear a red rose or something ;).

Or a red nose. (I'm working on that.)

We were at the back on the tall tables eating black beans and rice. (Or I was, anyway - hence the grumpy date who couldn't quite get her head round the lukewarm starter and didn't want any more. Cockney girls have a low tolerance level for that sort of thing.)

Very cool track.  I especially like the very spaced out vocal phrasing at the outset of the tune.  As it goes on and they start filling in percussive and other elements, it's great reminder, to me anyway, that so much of the best music leaves space.

I think you're right, though the fact, that there are that lenghty spaces on the singer track didn't occur so far in my conscous mind, well spotted ;).

Generally spaces are very important I think if want to build up a bit of tension - you have to let the listener suffer a bit ;). Things you get immediately and without effort become often quickly worthless in our perception.
