Well here we are at Day 2 and I think if I don't decide to kill my computer this might actually be as much fun (for me anyway) as I thought. George's pick for today:
I actually remember the first time I heard TMBG. It was on MTV. You see kids, many, many years ago, MTV showed these things called videos. They would play them ALL DAY. This was back before 'reality tv'. It was a different time. We all had much bigger hair. (And shoulders.) And who in the world could forget seeing two geeky-looking guys jumping around their TV set with big spinning heads?
I can't say I became an instant fan, but I didn't turn them off. My next favorite TMBG memory would have to be Tiny Toons.
From there the love grew and blossomed. I remember bonding with my college roommate, Mrs. PL, over TMBG. We particularly liked Ant. We often sang it at each other before bed. I remember me and my friend Sam taking a road trip and singing along at the top of our lungs to the entire Flood album. We especially liked Letterbox as we could never sing it correctly. We're from the South. We don't talk or sing that fast, so it always came out sounding like gobbledegook with a big "OH!" at the end. I remember the first time I saw them live was at 616. (That dates me quite a bit.) I was with my best friend Jonathan. In fact, that's what I like about TMBG so much. Pretty much ALL of my friends like them. I never have trouble finding someone to go to their shows with me, in fact I usually end up with a crowd.
This song, Bastard, how shall I put this? It reminds me of Dad driving me to junior high school. Many people on the road at that time of the morning seemed to be bastards. Hey, if Dad says it, it must be true!
Until tomorrow!
