Musical New Year's Resolution

Happy New Year MOG Monkeys!

Hope everyone had lovely holidays. George and I rang in 2009 at my friend Liz's house. There was the usual merriment as well as jello shots and Rock Band II. (I think I have finally found my "instrument": bass. I also sing a pretty terrible version of Living on a Prayer. Not to be missed! Also, not be endured without many, many cocktails.) Liz informed me I shall be an "Aunt" yet again this August. I am tres excited for her as she is the one person I know who has wanted to be a Mommy forEVER.

Yummy! Watch out for the peach ones!

Now I know most everyone hates New Year's resolutions but I still make them. In fact I make about a dozen every year and every year I manage to stick to maybe one. (Usually, it's the fun, think-outside-the-box one.) This year, along with the constants (lose weight, exercise more, get organized, save money, blah, blah, blah...) I decided I need to pay more attention to my local music scene. This fact was driven home recently while reading a copy of Q magazine which recommended Amy Lavere. When a magazine from another country is telling you to check out a local artist, it's time to pay better attention. So to combat my ignorance, this afternoon I've been grooving to Jump Back Jake. Their debut album, Brooklyn Hustle/Memphis Muscle just dropped back in December and you can stream the album over on their website. I'm not so big on the R&B (although they label it as a "lean, muscular swamp-boogie sound") but there's some good tunes in there.

Say A Prayer:

They will be playing at SXSW in March.

Thanks for listening!

    Happy New Year, Mimi!

    OH ANNA!

A jello shot is pretty much what it sounds like: jello made with alcohol and served as a shot.  That would be George pictured with a tray of them.  They are sold at clubs here all the time.  At least, I assume they still are, I don't get out much anymore.  I prefer vodka, but some people get more creative.  I was told the peach jello with rum was good, however rum is NOT my friend.

Happy New Year to you as well monkey!  Glad you are back.

Oh, I see, thank you for elaborating! I can't have those unfortunately (blame vegetarianism), but I'm sure they're yummy.

Rum is NOBODY's friend. It must live a very lonely life :)

Oh, and didn't you see the picture Sam?  George took on the jello shots -- even the rum ones! -- as he is a party animal!
