Did 5 U.S. Soldiers Create Punk Rock?

Posted almost 6 years ago
That is the question. You can read the entire history of this most unusual mid-'60s proto-punk outfit here: http://www.the-monks.com/. It's a truly incredible story, how five GIs got together on their base in Germany and created a sound unlike any ever heard...so unusual there is a new documentary about them:Wow! In one year, we get new docs on Leonard Cohen, John Lennon, Harry Nilsson AND the Monks. Anyway, if anyone out there got lucky like me and bought the jam-packed Infinite Zero reissue of the Monks' one and only album, 1966's "Black Monk Time," for God's sake hang onto it! This 1995 CD is worth a bundle (as is every Infinite Zero release, since they're now all long out of print.) Check Amazon or eBay if you don't believe me.And remember: "I hate you with a passion, baby...but call me!"

  1. Kusela says I just listed to "Shut Up" and this is really heavy S**t for 1965. I can see the point about them inventing Punk. These guys are like alternative music for those tired of the Beatles. Mike

  6. Heli0tr0pe says Hey maaan - I don't flaunt my Monks and wave 'em around. I keep my Monks on the DL where they belong, and I pull 'em out when the time is right. Speaking of which, I think yours need a wash and a shave.
