Another Step Forward

"New Erections" is another bold step forward for the Locust. The first shadows of this new direction could be seen on the 2005 EP "Safety First, Body Second", which abandoned the "fucking fast, and really fucking short" formula in exchange for two longer, fragmented movements. The only trace of their past sound that remained intact were their breakneck time changes and insanely long track titles.Following suit, "New Erections" is a smaller collection of longer tracks, a definite change of pace from their last LP, 2003's "Plague Soundscapes", which crammed more than 20 tracks into just over 20 minutes. If you were really into that album, you might not like this one quite as much. The new material is still a spazzy, blistering fusion of hardcore, noise rock and extreme metal, but you will need a longer attention span to hang on quite as much.All that said, "New Erections" is fucking rad. Go get it.
