U Only Live Twice & Replay Thrice
There's just something special, seductive, about many of the James Bond themes from the 1960s that play over the opening credits. To be woefully honest I'm not a 'Bond' fan. I'm sure he's a great chap and all but eh, I could take him or leave him. It's the music that leaves me stirred. Besides, I only ever watch the first 8- 17 minutes of the films. This encompasses the first sequences of James 'doing his thing' combined with some pyrotechnics. Then the opening theme begins. Frankly, some don't do it for me, but the others are timeless. Who can forget Shirley Bassey's cooing 'Diamonds are Forever' or her commanding 'Goldfinger'? It's fabulous! Then there's Nancy Sinatra's 'You only Live Twice' that I'm digging right now. The instrumental of the piece is a dream and I adore listening to it practically on a loop. So dreamy & relaxing.A few Bond themes from the 70s are memorable, and those from the 80s may seem a bit laughable. Nonetheless, Duran Duran & Sheena Easton made them unforgettable with 'A View to a Kill' and 'For Your Eyes Only' respectably. Back in the day I too thought, and still think, those songs sounded pretty cool on Casey Kasem's America's Top 40. As for the tunes from the 90s and the new millenia, well, the band Garbage did a pretty good one though I can't recall the movie's title to save someone else's life. Then there's Madonna's 'Die Another Day' which I must admit was pretty cool. And thank g0d, because the former 'Material Girl' has been on the 'Borderline' when it comes to turning out hits since 'MUSIC'. LOL!
