I saw mention of the Stranglers in a recent Crash post and it made me think of this song. A lot of the techno-y songs from the eighties were total crap, but this one is golden. There was this roving nightclub in Austin sometime around '84-'85, and this, my dear mogsters, was a crucial part of the soundtrack of the proto-rave-feel-good experience AKA Club Iguana.

that might be the most white people with afros I've ever seen in one in one place. Besides all that, they got their groove.

I LOVE seeing bands at the Troubadour. The music sounded great and the crowd was sweet and happy as was the band. Some times despite it's reputation, Los Angeles really gets it right. And as far as best albums of 2006 this one HAS to be somewhere high on the list. I owe a debt of gratitude to MOG 'cause I read about them back in the summer, got the album and it's been on heavy rotation ever since. If you get the opportunity, go see this band!

excellent. Yeah, I've heard tons about these guys through mog, and hardly a word of them anywhere else... i'm sure that illustrates several different points.

plus, i love the album art.

Thanks for the recommendation. I gave them a whirl last night while working on the computer. I've read that Silversun Pickups are compared to the Smashing Pumpkins, but on my first listen I wouldn't know that distinction, though they're names both have the same initials ;-) As I learned this past year, it takes me at least a few whirls of most CDs to get to know the music. Case in point: Secret Machines - Ten Silver Drops. One day it just clicked and I had to hear them every day for a while.

I'm glad you have tickets to Gomez in LA. That will be a fun night! Their music is comforting for the soul. I've heard many stories, some first hand, of people having found solace in their music. I personally found it to be true.

I like the Almost Famous soundtrack. I loved your Daddy-O post -- we have similiar tastes in music or at least I have similiar tastes to the men of your life. :) Best wishes for peace, good health and prosperity for you and your family.

^ Oh, and I knew from the first moment I heard Gomez that I had to own as much of their music as possible.
