This spiffy release from 2003 escaped my radar until a few years ago. Upon repeated listens I've determined conclusively that this 'one off' release is worthy of your attention... As was the case with most hip releases 8 years ago, it was quite 'Ninja Tuney' in its approach, i.e., a clever mix of hip vintage soundbites w/ quasi-jazz a la DJ Food or Mr. Scruff. It's a formula where one can hardly go wrong. While all the tracks and sound bites have their moments, 'Kappabashi' recalls Brubeck @ his 'red hot and coolest'--all with various screaming children in the background, and a trippy flute interlude. Speaking of ludes... (Ha ha... Only did 'em once, didn't see the point of paying to be stupid, I can do that for free!) Ha, ha. ha....
