Posts have been sparse, life's been busy. If it ain't sickness, it's work. I've mentioned before that I have two jobs. I also am now playing bass in two very different bands. One is a cover band (that's the one that actually makes a small amount of money now and then) and the other is original, just starting, doing sort of an instrumental, Explosions in the Sky meets the Belltower sort of thing. Lots of fun. Three kids. Lots of fun. But each thing I do takes up one more slice of time. I'm trying to keep up with the posts, listen when I can, comment on some, but if I don't get to all of them, don't take it personally!
In light of my busy life, and the lack of sleep it brings, here's some King Crimson doing their early 80's dance thing. And yes, it is possible to put "King Crimson" and "dance" in the same sentence.
. . . Although usually it's more along the lines of "It is impossible to dance to King Crimson." This is one of their funkier and more accesible listens. I think it actually made it on the radio a time or two:

two bands and two jobs. life has been keeping you busy man
My Trusted MOGs
Yeah, way too busy. And I have a feeling things aren't going to slow down any time soon.
Earthman, I used to be a Fripp freak, really. Enjoy the trip down memory lane!

what songs does your cover band play?
My Trusted MOGs
Not to mention the hours it takes to maintain that Afro!

I hear you on the busy life Chuck. I am right there with you. If you ever record any of your bands music make sure you share it with us.

Todd: we do mainly classic rock like Doobie Brothers, the Eagles, CCR, etc. Also some newer stuff, a song by Shawn Colvin, KT Tunstall, The Wallflowers. Some of the music is stuff I don't care for, really, but I find when I'm actually playing I can have fun with just about anything.
Mike: Will do. We do record our practice sessions, but the quality is lacking, the songs are still half-formed. But I like what we're doing, and hopefully soon I'll be sharing something worth listening to!
Dermahrk: There goes even more sleep . . .

One of my fave tracks.
Possum 404, rocks. I feel a phone call coming on. Maybe this weekend.
My Trusted MOGs
I've been toying with the idea of finally posting some Possum 404 here, but don't want to feel like I'm just one of those guys who gets on here just to shill my own stuff. this weekend sounds like a possibility. I know I'm gone pretty much all day Saturday, but Sunday's pretty open.

I'll do it and okay.

I have been busy a lot, but right now luckily not, though your time table looks serious. Personally I have no time for cover bands, as they do nothing original, but that's my very personal opinion and shall not be directed against you. If you just play for fun and don't consider it as (original) music making, I can even understand that. But I would be very interested in the stuff of your other more original band. But take your time - I'm always thinking long-term ;).

I have no time for cover bands
Honestly, I don't either, usually. I always considered them the "dark side" of playing music. Sure, they're easier to play in, since you're not doing any writing, and they tend to make good money quick if you're good enough, but there's no creativity in them. This one just sort of happened. I hadn't played in about a year and was really feeling like I had to play soon, you know? I kne the drummer, and he asked if I wanted to join. It's been fun . . . as I said, I find that I tend to have fun playing anything, just because I'm playing it. Had a few good gigs, many with open bars for the band (which is all the motivation I need, really!) and had an excuse to get out of the house.
The other band is something I'm really excited about . . . and I do plan on posting something hopefully in the not too distant future, once I can get a decent enough recording!

O.k, regarding your attitude to cover bands I already read this somehow behind the lines ;). Free bar is motivation enough, it was for me too, when deejaying sometimes. I'm looking forward to that recording.
