Dead fish in the drinking fountain.

Posted almost 5 years ago
That's how my day started off. I teach 8th grade. If you are familiar with the age (roughly 13-14 years old) you know how the kids can be. I always say I like my job because no matter what you plan for, every day the unexpected happens, and it's never the same. Well, today started with some student putting a pile of dead sardines or minnows or something in the drinking fountain right by my room. The classes never really settled down after that. Then, during lunch, two of our top girls, honor roll students both, got into a huge fight. This cause the entire 8th grade to split into two factions, depending on whose side they were on. I hate to use the gang analogy, 'cause it really wasn't like that, but that's the only thing I can think of. And after that we had a number of "almost-fights" between people on different sides of the original fight. So, I'm frustrated. I posted before about anger music, but today, it was Ruins to take the edge off. Talk about angular noise!

  1. debi says I've taught preschool, elementary and high school but never middle school since they 'scared me' with the up and down emotions! Once I got through raising my own middle schoolers though, I now recall those days with great fondness Thanks for the post - made me smile. Hope tomorrow is full of peace (if you're like NY schools, only 3 more days til spring break!)
