It's been a while since I posted on my band, Flood Empty Lakes. Not that things haven't been moving forward, I just didn't want to bore you with details. I mean, you guys have been awesome in your support and comments, but it's not like you want to follow us around a la Deadhead style, is it?
So I thought I'd wait and just mention the bigger things. And the biggest news of all is that we are playing for our first time in front of an actual audience tomorrow night! Notice I didn't use the word "gig." It's not a gig. There will be no money changing hands, no mention of us in the "Live Music" section of the local paper, no beer tab to exploit and ultimately surpass. In fact, it's just an open mic sort of thing. But it's still a first step. In the month or so since I poste our music we've ben honing our sound a little at a time--in between life and work--and plan on playing a short yet kick-butt set. So, thursday-ish I'll be able to post here about the first reactions to our music from non-friends I've witnessed. Oughta be a bit interesting, non?
In other news, we also (sort of) have a CD! It's one of those pay-and-get-a-batch deals, but I've been told they look nice, and should be a first step in doing some marketing here and elsewhere. I hope to be posting soon about real gigs with real money and real bar tabs, and I hope to report about the numerous labels beating down our metaphorical doors in the hopes of signing us to bigger and better things in the future.
We also have been working on our electronic presence as of late. The myspace page is hopping a bit, and our music is now on last.fm. The website www.floodemptylakes.com is also coming along, although still in its infancy. Our songs are also available for download at snocap, although I don't believe anyone has taken us up on that yet.
Oh, and we also have been working on new material, which sounds pretty good to my ears so far.
So, if you wanted to, how could you help? First, keep sending out those positive vibes! If you're interested in legally owning a piece of us, downloading from snocap (I haven't posted a link or anything yet because I don't want to seem pushy. If anyone's interested, let me know and I'll put it up). If you have a last.fm account, check us out, make some comments or whatever to make us more noticeable.
You could also buy a CD too, if you wanted. Our original plan was to sell them, but marketing seems to be winning out over that. Still, I wouldn't say no!
/shameless plug
The track is for Anna. I promised her more Can a while back, and failed to deliver. I apologize, you Greek goddes you!

sweet!
that's a big step ... playing live I mean. At least it would be for me.
Good Luck
you must have a friend with a video camera showing up I hope
nice. more Can and, more importantly, more Flood Empty Lakes! it's a little hard to purchase your music from here, i would if i could, but i am sending a truckload of positive vibes and i'm not even an optimist. i'm with Nick, playing live is a major step. in all seriousness, Groony, best of luck.
Nick: thanks. I've played live before, but every group is different. I'm actually a bit worried about this one, so we'll see how it goes.
Dave: believe it or not, I don't believe there's a video camera showing up. Not a bad idea, but the place we're playing is actually kind of far away and I don't know if any of our friends are actually going to be there. Why didn't we find a place closer, you ask? Good question, but the short answer is this one was on a Wednesday night, which is one of the few nights that worked for us. Maybe I'll take my camera just in case.
Ilay: I appreciate the vibes, more than you know! Thank you--and I appreciate the sacrifice of optimism.
Good luck man, Ive never seen a music only band play before, I bet its not so easy, you guys have some good stuff and after all is old to you already, you will kick ass!
Send me a CD I want hardcopy of your awesomeness. What's the price and I'll mail you dough in 2 days.
Good luck man. Are you nervous? Like debilitating nervous.
Do good and tell us about it later.
Dean: thanks for the positive thoughts! Doing the music only thing live is in some ways easier, I think, and harder. Easier in the sense that it's one less thing to have to worry about, it tends to shift the focus off of one person (the singer) and spread the love around. It's harder because it means people are watching you closer, and it's more obvious when things go awry.
Chris: serious? That's awesome. I'm sending you the info a bit more private-like as we speak.
To anyone else interested, let me know!
Thank you for the music, you American god you! :D
Congratulations on everything! I wish I could see you live. When you come to the UK, I'm gonna be in the front row!
What is pay and get a batch? And is that the only way one can buy your CD? I'd like some details, too.
Good to hear that Groon! Good luck with the playing for an audience, I'm eager to hear how it went. ;)
Can't wait to hear how it goes, Chuck!! Knock em dead (or, at least deaf)
I, too, would like to get a CD. send me the details
I would send out some cash for a hardcopy of history indeed! Let me know, good luck with the show, this song is definitely representing this morning. good things
We've fed you a steady diet of ear worms, fattened you up with praise and musicophilia, watched as your fluff has grown into feathers, and nudged you to the edge of the nest. Spread your wings and fly little bird. Just keep them wings flapping!
Chuck....I am pleased for you. I can't wait to hear all the deets.
You tripping over the bass chord, the keyboard accidentally tipping over, the kick drum coming off and rolling into the audience, the guitarist falling off the stage...you know, all the regular deets.
You know I'll be there in spirit 100%...rock the house Groon.

Tyler, all I can think about is, "When do we go skeet shooting?"
send me some info on purchasing. ..or else.
wow, playing live and a new cd..........who do I get to sleep with first!. Seriously, congrats on doing something this teacher only dreams about
all these great comments here--thank you all so much! I jsut got home a couple of minutes ago and want to post about it, but that's going to have to wait until tomorrow as I'm off to bed. Suffice to say I had a great time and am feeling better than ever about this band!
^ great great news! Many grats :)
GO CHUCK! Cool song!
Now when can we expect a facebook fan page? ;-)
Holy Crap Groon! I didn't know I was posting with greatness all this time. this song is exactly the kind of stuff I search for day and night. Well done! I checked out LastFM but didn't get anything back from the search.
you mean no Flood Empty Lakes there? Hmmm . . . I'm not on Last.fm myself, but I'll have to ask Nate if it's still on there.
