It's almost November again . . .

Posted over 3 years ago

. . . and that means NaNoWriMo time. If you weren't here last year while I underwent this ordeal, NaNoWriMo is an annual contest of sorts to try and get as many people as possible to write a novel during the month of November. The rules are pretty simple: you have to write 50,000 words between the first and last day of November. If you do, you win. Regardless of how terrible the actual quality of the writing is.

Which is how I won last year. With a lot of determination and the use of Chris aka I Am as a sounding board once or twice, I finished. 50,000 words? Done. Readable? Don't bet on it.

So this year I've decided to go for it again. I'm going to do a couple of things differently this time. For starters, I'm going to actually have an idea before I start writing. I mean, more than just a smidgen of one. Second, I'm going to plan things out a little bit before it gets out of hand. Third, and most importantly, I'm going to have fun (this one I did last time, or I wouldn't be doing it again).

If you're interestd in more info, check out www.nanowrimo.org. For tunes, spend a few minutes shaking it to Can's "Moonshake." No relation, it's just a great tune.

The song is not working in either player! So, how many pages = 50 thou?

Apparently none of the songs are working in any of the players on every post for me!

Yeah, that looks like a problem that's going around at the moment.  I saw on a post the other day that they had to redo something or other that was interfering with some Mogger's pages.  I wonder if this is an unintended side effect.  Although I was getting sound earlier . . .

man good luck with that, I know how much time it takes and dedication to sit down and write every night.

Thanks.  Last year it was a bit of a strain at times, and by the end I was writing more just to finish than actually trying to write anything good.  I'm a bit worried this year because it seems like I've been busier this year than last, but I figure with something resembling an actual plan in place, who knows?

write about my year at school from the last school year, it would make an excellent book I have been told

It would.  Not for my pen, though--a bit too realistic for my sci-fi/fantasy mind.  Unless I could make them aliens?

poe--I agree.  Too much Can is not enough.  And I don't buy into Christmas until December starts.  I'll keep you guys updated from time to time so you can enjoy the ride, too!

Chris--I might be using you as a sounding board from time to time.  Be warned.

anna--thanks!  I promise, more Can on the next post.

Bring it. Did you say sci fi again?

Yeah, although this one would probably be more in the "fantasy" section.  Think "Around the World in 80 Days" set in a different world with large oceans of mist instead of water.  Complete with turn of the century technology and a slight steampunk motif.  Add in me trying tio emulate Jules Verne's style (a little).

that's the idea.  Something tells me I won't get very close to that, though.

...almost, that is. I just remembered you had posted up my all time fave Can track the other day, but I couldn't tune in at the time. Tempted but daunted at the same time, I'll never even live 50,000 days! Good luck mon
