5 from King's X, part 2: Gospel rock?

Posted over 4 years ago
For my next post, "the hook," as contra would refer to it, I've gone to their second album, Gretchen Goes to Nebraska. This song is one of the staples of the King's X live show, and is a great example of their "early" sound.

  5. Groon says Brings to mind seeing them live in Charleston when they were amazed that at a basically all request show, this is the song we all wanted to hear. I remember it "just like yesterday"!

  15. RGM says Great album, awesome band! “Out of the Silent Planet” you read the book or the scifi triliogy?

  16. Groon says Yes, a long time ago. I remember really digging the first two, and then not liking the third one at all until many years later, when it eventually became my favorite.

  17. RGM says I stiil go to read them, them packed of shoved away some where. Started them but quit silent 1/2 way. Dig C.S., but sometimes you gotta be in the mood for some of his writings. "Screwtape" is my fave of his to this date, then "A Grief Observe," of course that wasn't published till after his death. That book hits to the soul man...

  18. Groon says I'm not too familiar with his non-novel type writing. I did read and thoroughly enjoyed "Screwtape", though.

  19. RGM says “A Grief Observe," was a pretty heavy book if you are familiar with C.S. Lewis at all. He was a single most of his life, got married, and I think never planned on it. Then his wife developed cancer, she went very quickly. They were married 4 years, the book is a collection of writings from that period. You see a very diffrent man angry and cursing God, saying things like",was this some cruel joke you are playing on me!" Not as heavy as studing Calvinism, but pretty heavy. ScrewTape man! Awesome book! I think of that part were he started a war and his uncle said that thats was O.K., but during those times, people tend to find religion...

  20. Groon says I'll be honest, it's been so long since I read it that that barely sounds familiar. I think I should go read it again.

  21. RGM says A short read...
