I was lucky enough to see Rock Legend Chuck Berry for the second time last night at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston. The show was listed as Super Group featuring Chuck berry. The backing band was to consist of Kirke, Leavell, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter (Steely Dan), saxman Tim Reis (Rolling Stones), drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), bassist John Conte, singer Kate Taylor, guitarists Barry Goudreau (Boston), and Ricky Byrd (Blackhearts), and full horn and vocal sections. Not too shabby. Turns out though Chuck wasn't impressed, and decided to bring his own band instead! I wasn't too shocked though as he had done the same thing when I saw him last summer in NJ, only then it was The Smithereens who got the shaft. Chuck still gets around for an 81 year old, and though his guitar days are probably coming to an end real soon, he can still entertain. I don't remember the exact setlist, but does it even matter? Most of his tunes are gold. I was happy though when the crowd requested My ding a ling, and Chuck elected to go with Carol instead. It's nice to see that Chuck is still unpredictable even at 81 years old. I was in the cheap seats, but you could still see the fear in the faces of his bandmates inbetween songs as they tried to figure out what was going to be played next, as Chuck has the reputation of never having a setlist. The bassist imparticular looked like he was going to crap his pants all night. There was no duck walk last nite, but it was definatley entertaining. It's not every nite you get to see a legend. If you have a chance to see him, do it, because there will never be another Chuck Berry.

Not much of a writer here, but was so blown away at how good the Dolls played last nite in Boston I had to share. I would highly recommend to anyone who even remotely enjoys their music to check them out on their latest tour. I don't remember the exact order of the setlist, but they opened with Puss N Boots, Human Being and closed with Personality Crisis. They played all but 2 off of the first album(vietnamese baby and subway train) and threw in Babylon(a nice surprise), a Janis Joplin cover and 4 or 5 tracks off of their latest album. I did not care much for the latest album, but everything sounded great live. They played with as much energy as most young bands out there and really seemed to be enjoying themselves. All in all it is just a truly great dirty rock n' roll show, and I'll take those whenever I can get em. I picked up a Live CD while I was there they just put out recorded last December. The track posted is from that.

super, sounds nice live too. what janis joplin song did they cover and how was it?
Actually now that I think of it, it's not a Janis Joplin song, but one she covered, "piece of my heart". I thought it sounded great. I've been on a Dolls kick since the show.
Nice! For my nostalgia's sake, where did they play? (i'm from boston, have recently moved)

berry's guitar moves for an 81 year old put bob dylan to shame.
What a green man of 81 Chuck is. I'm also green myself with envy. Thanks for sharing your night with Mr Berry with us.
is that a pict from the show? In that case- he's looking grooovy for his age!
