Bay area radio sucks

Posted over 5 years ago
just got back from a week in the east bay, w/ frequent trips to SF for dinner, wine, and conversation. to borrow a felicitous turn of phrase i first saw on mog, bay area radio sucks metric tons of ass. only one decent station, KCSM, which plays some fine jazz,a poor man's "'BGO":http://www.wbgo.org, but you literally have to be w/in sight of the transmitter to pick it up. classical radio is paricularly horrible, no complete works, just "bleeding chunks" from a classical 101 playlist.and what passes for "alternative", Live 105, is mostly noisy dreck. where're the great college radio stations, like "WFUV":http://wfuv.org, or "WXPN":http://xpn.org, both of which play "rock 'n roll for adults" and have an on air attitude driven by people who haven't needed a tube of clearasil in at least 30 years.did catch the mog party, and it was great to see the mog-daddy (and daddy to be) again, and meet some people i'd only "met" online. also great to get back home and find a note from "Dave":http://mog.com/Dave with a suggestion I check out BBB's Blues in the Night- great record, looks to be mid-80s, tho AllMusic's unaccountably coy on that point. tender, aching R&B, sung by a master in great form- perfect for the drive back over the bay bridge after a long evening sipping sonoma coast pinot at Bacar...

  4. max says yes live 105 sucks, i know, i know i also do stuff their, but at least i do it on the one of their better shows...as for my little kalx, kalx is the shit, it's the best! but it is hit or miss, you really need to pick and choose the people you like and tune in for them

  5. ladyfizzgig says I happen to enjoy Live105, and most of the music they play, but whatever. There's been enough talk today about what passes as "cool" music. If you want that 30+ Idontwanttolistentothesamethingmyteenageoffspringlistensto station, that'd be 97.3 Have fun with Nora Jones and Dave Matthews =( You can try 104.5 if you like(d) to smoke a lot of pot. They play a lot of older stuff too. Not that any of this information is gonna do you any good now. But I thought I'd let you know.
