"We’re pleased as punch to host the CD release party for Velcro Stars’ new CD Hiroshima’s Revenge. This project is a joint release from Murfreesboro’s media darlings Grand Palace Records and Athens, GA’s Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records. I asked the Grand Palace guys for some additional info on the band to craft this teaser for the in-store and there’s no way I could improve upon what they sent me so here ‘tis: “If Murfreesboro, TN is a miniature version of the pop-music universe, then Sir Pizza on E. Main St. is Bucket City's Brill Building. And if that holds true, Velcro Stars' pie-slinging/songwriting duo of Shane Spresser and Keith Pratt are definitely Bucket City's version of Goffin & King. That, of course, would make keyboardist Rebekah Spresser the town's Elephant's Memory-era Carly Simon. Now throw in drummer Andy Spore and bassist Danial Norman, then multiply that by the fuzz and fever of Superchunk's "No Pocky for Kitty" and you've got a pretty good idea of where they're at. Velcro Stars are the modern day torchbearers of great Southern guitar-pop - the same torch carried by Big Star, Superdrag, and Sam the Sham - five friends, a trio of vocalists, dueling guitarists, some xylophone, recorder and pedal steel.” ‘Nuff said.
