To me, Erykah Badu has always been slept on. Maybe it's my age but, you never hear too much about what this great woman is up to. This album New Amerykah is the only Eryka Badu album I own. I know she has many but I'm working my way backwards. I was drawn to it because it is produced by Madlib, one of my favorite creators to listen to. Few can put together sounds as eliquent and soulful as he except for the father of hip hop soul, Jdilla. I cant stop listening to the track Soldier. The first verse talks about a good kid growing up in the hood. Even though he is an underdog he has tremendous potential. Musically when she begins sayin," Everything chaned when he saw his own wings." It sounds almost as if you are that kid she is singing about because Madlib creates an epiphany moment through music. Genius!! I love this song. If you like hip hop that speaks, soul that cries, and Madlib's bump. Buy this album yo. It changed my life hopefully it can do somethin for you too.
