Poiema by Michael Card

Posted almost 3 years ago

I've been a great fan of Michael Card since the late 1970's and have followed his extraordinary career ever since. Having had the privilege of seeing Michael in concert 5 times has taught me that each performance and album release is a special treat, filling the heart and soul of the listener with joy.

Poiema is an album rich in the poetry that Michael is so well known for. Biblically based, Michael's work is set to contemporary music that is an art in and of itself. Poiema has Celtic overtones which weaves its' way around the poetic lyrics, providing listeners with a unique experience. Listen for the Irish bodrain (drums) and the Irish bagpipes, which lend a wonderful flavor to the lyrics, but especially to "Lowden's Prayer", an instrumental piece that immediately touches the senses, while "The Basin and the Towel" reminds us we are charged to be servants to one another. "For F.F.B." is a tender reminiscence of Michael's grandfather who was a 'simple Carolina preacher'. In all, this album is fabulously satisfying and uplifting.
