Get 'Mabused' 18 September '07 - The Mabuses return at last!

Posted almost 5 years ago
I've been a Mabuse fan since '92, and was absolutely thrilled to learn a new release is on the horizon - here's the details:The Mabuses, an 'enigmatic and off-kilter international pop project' led by frontman Kim Fahy, have announced a new recording to be released 18 September 2007. Entitled 'Mabused', the album will be the multi-national ensemble's third album, and will come after a thirteen year hiatus!Seasider from the new album:The Mabuses released their self-titled critically acclaimed debut in '91. A second album entitled 'The Melbourne Man' appeared in '94, and though not as laudable as the debut it was still a spirited, well-crafted offering. Fahy's side project, a trio called Egomaniacs, with Jamie Harley and Shimmy Disk founder Kramer, released an album the same year. Martin Aston (College Music Journal) recently wrote: "The Mabuses is supremely idealistic pop, cut according to the belief that the form should entice, baffle and ruffle rather than provide a readily assimilable template. Fahy's rhythmic/melodic charge is rooted in folk-derived Brit-pop, the kind that typified 1967's psychedelic headcharge, a.k.a Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd and the Soft Machine, with that nursery rhyme loopiness - whimsy and surrealism simultaneously, all strangeness, quark and charm - where nothing is quite as it seems."A few bio facts:The group includes musicians from France, England, Ireland, America, and Germany. Members are Kim Fahy, Les Cargo (aka Valentine Carruthers), Chris Wilson, Jamie Harley, Lucien Nataf, Miles Nervine, PO MIlanini, and Arthur Watts.Fahy named the band after the Norbert Jacque Dr. Mabuse literary figure - it's also a tribute to the Jacque inspired Fritz Lang Mabuse film series that began with the 1922 classic "Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler".A superb Lang resource:http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/michaelwalford/tag/fritz_lang/Seasider video with animations created by Miles Nervine: The Mabuses official site: http://www.themabuses.com/

  2. dachmo says The Mabuses sound pretty interesting, any idea how come they have so few albums since '92? The Propaganda video was pretty good as well.

  9. Girlcrawl says Thanks everyone!! Great clip Neill - appreciate it. dachmo - can't definitively answer, but seems I read that Kim resumed his University studies; with so many members all involved in various projects/bands it could have been locating everyone in one place (musically and locationally) simultaneously. oceanrain - not often that you're not familiar with a band; :-) am glad you enjoyed! SunshineDaydream - ever since their conception, the Mabuses have had a 'familiar' yet not sound; there are similarities/influences that one can 'hear', but the band creates still a very distinct vibe. Glad you enjoyed, and I would not wish to be in the middle of that conversational nightmare! :-) FlowerPower333 - you're welcome a bunch, and I'm glad you like the guys - I think they are quite smashing too! :-) Mike the Knife - Merci! It does actually, and concur in a 'good way' - appreciate the comment as ever. Cheers!

  10. soulrocket says i enoyed both tracks.a lot, pretty cool. this is the kind of pop music i like and it will sound still good 15 years from now. ive been totally mabused and im playing both tracks twice. you always makes me keep the faith on pop music, which i almost lost some time ago. i dont really understand a lot of bands today what they are about, probably im too square, who knows?

  16. Girlcrawl says You're not too shabby either chap - :-) One last one for you: Here's the cool 12" single Where's Joey Gone? released on Rough Trade in 1989 by The Assassins - they were Kim's band prior to his forming The Mabuses, and this 12" is very difficult to find these days: ~Ceh0mMhaQ38.mp3~ Also look for the Egomaniacs album - you can preview the songs on Amazon.

  17. Girlcrawl says soulrocket - Mabused have you; that was quite funny. Agree these songs may well hold up as their '91 and '94 releases have. Am sure you are not at all 'too square', rather it's the damn kids that are square :-). Glad you're managing to keep some pop-faith! Cheers pal. Lady Miss Ian - Appreciate you leaving a lovely comment whilst 'skipping' and 'side-bobbing'; glad you enjoyed, and cheers as ever!

The Le Professeur Inlassable looks/sounds tremendously interesting - the album is Lecon No. 1, and the Le Professeur Inlassable ensemble include: Kim Fahey, Nicolas Repac, Tomas Gubitsch, Dom Farkas, and several musicians. Can't wait to obtain a copy! Great to know that the Mabuses are touring stateside; will keep up with dates as well. Thanks again for the fabulous info, and cheers.
