WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Artist:
Album:
Track: I Will Take This Ride
(99)

Unique, titillating, provocative, multi-talented, and never surpassed - Betty Davis remains the original funk diva!

'I Will Take This Ride' stems from Betty's self-titled '73 debut: the album was recorded with Sly & The Family Stone's rhythm section, produced by Sly drummer Greg Errico, and featured backing vocals from Sylvester and the Pointer Sisters! Highly recommend 'Betty Davis' and 'They Say I'm Different' originally released in '74.

The steamingly funky 'Anti Love Song' track is posted in comments.

That was good stuff girlcrawl. MOG has me listening to so much stuff I normally would not go near. This place is turning out to be a musical journey in many directions at the same time, both on the listening and creative side! Ta!

Know the following has already been posted, but it’s so deliciously funky (and a personal fave) that I’m compelled to re-post: here’s Anti Love Song from the self-titled Betty Davis LP

The Boy Flood – know exactly what you mean, and wholeheartedly concur!

Cody B – can’t fathom why Betty’s not lurking in everyone’s collection; she was so daringly original for her time (banned from nearly every FM station), and a wildly interesting, somewhat tragic figure. She absolutely ‘had it’. :-)

nicki – nor can I; so glad you enjoyed, and thanks for commenting! Cheers.

CHECK THIS OUT! Woot, this is so cool! You can download her first interview in almost 30 years and it was just a few weeks ago. I think you can stream it also, but it seems to be easier to just download the mp3.

Marigold - 'Woot' indeed! Just discovered your last 2 comments - am so sorry for not responding, but only received the MOG notification a few moments ago, and never received one for the 11 July comment so had no idea you had left such a cool link. Downloaded the interview and gave it a listen - splendid! You possess mad investigative skills my friend. Thanks so much for sharing the Sound of Young America discovery; enjoyed listening to Ms. Betty though she seems as reticent as ever. Great that she is finally being recognised for her legacy and trail-blazing talent.

As for the second comment...you are a sweet-heart! Your 'music sugar mama' aye - Love that; quite sure I'm blushing a wee bit. Thanks for the wonderful compliment, and I rather think you are 'the bomb' too groovy papa! Cheers as ever.
