I'm just sharing the love - I don't even own stock in the company, but LaLa is awesome. Legal, cheap, DRM-less music - sweet. Basically you list the CDs you don't mind sending to someone else and then you develop a list of CDs that you want. Other users send you CDs you request for which you pay LaLa $1. LaLa sends you postage paid envelopes and CD protectors and so when a user requests one of your CDs you pop it into the envelope and ship it off to them. It's a great idea and a great company - although they don't have to, they also give 20% of the proceeds to the artists. So there ya go - entire CDs for the price of an iTunes track and no RIAA worries. I love it.

  2. 82times says That sounds really cool. I get to hold onto something for a while, flip through the liner notes, rip the music if I like it, and then mail it to somebody else if they want it? Totally cool user experience in theory. I'm gonna try this out. I pay more than a dollar for coffee, so the processing fee is right. Have you gotten any CDs you were interested in? I'm curious to hear if it actually works in practice...

  4. ROCKNROLLPIMP1 says ps: it is actually 1.75 for each successful trade to cover the prepaid shipping envelopes used to be 1.49 but in lieu of added a stamp if you ship cd art the just went across the board

  5. GeekXian says I've been a member for about a month or so -- I've sent out 2 CDs and gotten three that I was interested in. Works like a charm -- the CDs work and you get the album art (if you specify that you definitely want them - it is optional, but they make you choose so you can't miss it). You do have to send CDs in order to get CDs so that they can keep the system working, and you only get charged once a month for everything that you get - though, he's right it's $1+.75 for the envelopes. -X
