They _are_ Canada's music scene. At least Montreal. But yeah, they are (were) a great band.

Not so sure about strangest, but largest? Yeah, hands down.

one of the best most definitely. what's strange to me is the 7/4 time signature. it's so catchy though.

Wow! That song rocks. The energy builds with every twenty seconds. Fantastic. The video is cool too. I really appreciate the homage to the cassette. I giggled at the sight of the zebra. Thanks for sharing this.

I love broken social scene... but don't count out K-Os and Boards of Canada when you're throwing around terms like "best band to come out of Canada...ever" cool post, love the song too...

I love Broken Social Scene (and that particular song just happens to be my favorite)...There are so many terrific bands coming out of Canada that I'd hardly know where to begin in trying to list them all.

hmmm i wouldn't say strange just a bit odd! Anyway matey hope you're well! Strangest? Hardly... Nihilist Spasm Band anyone? What about NoMeansNo? I wouldn't even say "strange" describes Broken Social Scene in the least. They have a lot of pop appeal up here, and had a couple of pretty popular singles on Canadian radio with their last album. And keep in mind that this is also a country that thought Avril Lavigne would be a really neat idea.

What about all the great musicians/bands associated with Broken Social Scene? Feist, Metric, Emily Haines, Apostle of Hustle etc. They are all awesome too.

While I really dig BSS, my favorite Canadian band would have definitely have to be Destroyalldreamers

I agree with theyouthcard...check out STARS...as much as I like BSS, STARS for my $ are damn near perfect...along with other great CANCON like:

One cannot judge "strange" until you see it with your own eyes. The video may seen benign, but perhaps there's more to the story :) I like their sound and cannot think of any band to make such noises from Canada.
