Open Your Eyes

Posted about 5 years ago
Convened in Dingle on the west coast of Ireland. Drummer Jonny knew the area well and convinced the band the remote cottage once used by Kate Bush would best channel the Snow Patrol spirit. I read meaning into everything. And yes, the studio was on a cliff edge with the sea crashing just beneath. And it was from these early writing sessions that ‘Eyes Open’ began it’s journey to completion, via recording sessions in Kent and Grouse Lodge, Ireland.

  4. joanikin says Places like the one described must certainly offer recompense for any struggle to create such a perfectly beautiful song. Who hasn't had moments where the one we are involved with cannot see into the core of what causes discord? Many thanks for this song!

  13. palomita says I remember reading somewhere that the more personal a piece of art is, the more universal it ultimately becomes as we are all able to see our own experiences and sentiments in the work...I think that's the beauty of a lot of Snow Patrol's music. This song is, to me (a long-time SP fan) the most dramatic example of this. The first time I heard it, it was absolutely overwhelming - the lyrics so closely mirrored something I had experienced not too long ago that it took my breath away. Even now, having listened to the song countless times, it has not lost that power to affect me. It's truly cathartic, in a way that few songs have been for me. Because I formed such an immediate emotional connection to the song, I have often wondered what actually inspired the lyrics. Maybe I will know one day!

Wow! Thanks for sharing. Had no idea that the recording took place in the same location as the legendary Kate Bush. So cool!
