Long time no mog

My current musical obsession: Malcolm Middleton, espescially the song Fight Like the Night off his most recent album, this year's A Brighter Beat (on Full Time Hobby records). It's a fantastic indie rock duet with the lovely Jenny Reeve with some fantastic lyrics ("Crawl into this rut with me and hold my chin up") and great keyboard and guitar lines. I cannot stop listening to it.

Miles Gives In II: The Hold Steady

Alright, alright, you are all right. The Hold Steady are pretty damn good fun. From my investigations so far Chips Ahoy! and Most People are DJs are my favourites. Hit up The Hype Machine for Lots Of Mp3s. They've been blogged Rather a Bit. I was going to find the mp3 that Pitchfork themselves posted a while ago but I can't get on their site at the moment.Ooh, look at that. Another one of my fa...

Maybe It's Brilliant

If it were not for having a RIDICULOUSLY over long long outro (it's a good 2 minutes of bleepedy bloopedyness) which really could have been chopped off to become an instrumental interlude or something, Maybe You Can Owe Me would be my favourite AiH song ever. "There's no way that I'll sleep when you're near me" is probably the best lyric on In Case We Die and the whole thing is just so damn dreamy

There is no excuse for not listening to the new Shins single. You can get it for free from SubPop's site for chrissakes: http://media.subpop.com/downloads/free/Phantom_Limb400.mp3Go! Now! It's awesome!Well I love it anyway. As with the first two whole Shins albums, at first I was kinda "Meh" then I was all "Mmmm" and now it's like "AWESOMESAUCE".Do you dig?

I'll be the atheist in your foxhole...

From Harvey Danger's stunning third album, War Buddies is a brilliantly smart satire of the war on terror. Sean Nelson continues to throw out some of the finest lyrical stingers going (the line quoted in the title of this review is probably my favourite) and musically keyboards and guitars interweave to create a melodic, paranoid, angry little protest song.

The Best Muse Song Ever

Is it not? I think it may just be, you know. Say what you will for, oh, Time Is Running Out's bass line or Plug In Baby's guitar riff or Sing for Absolution's vocal performace... But the moment after the piano solo when the chorus comes back at full volume? That's perfection.

Fur Comet

Oh, Pelz Komet. How I love thee. A song I discovered years ago on Yahoo Launchcast radio and have not heard for a long long time until last weekend when I remembered it and searched long and hard for it before discovering you could get it for free from the Kingsbury Manx website. And what a song it is. In fact, it's probably three songs. My favourite section is the final third but the whole thing i
