Melancholy

When I was younger (and I am not even that old) I was so mesmerized by popular music I didn't know anything else could sound good. I grew up when rap was starting, when heavy metal found it groove, and grunge ruled the world. I loved it all. Concerts, tapes (then CDs), t-shirts.... those were the things I needed. Who cares that I play it so loud my speakers get distorted. Who cares that I, growing up in a town with a population of 1000 in Oklahoma, didn't even know what half the stuff they were saying meant. That pretty much changed when I fell in love with Nirvana. That band made me sit and listen. They made me understand and feel just how powerful a song could be. Well this all leads to my latest obsession song. I was watching Donnie Darko for the first time a few weeks ago and heard Mad World as performed by Gary Jules. How can you not be moved to tears by the beauty and at the same time sorrow of that song. Jules voice has the perfect companion in the wistful piano. I was so pleased when I saw ITumes offered the song. Now though I can't stop playing it. Honestly, it make the Tears for Fears version seem, I don't know, quaint.

  3. Sweetbro says I love this song... it's resurfaced on some random video game commercial too, and I find it very out of place.

  4. ix3johnbender says This song fits the movie perfectly. And I, too, am one of the billions of people who absolutely love Donnie Darko. At least I'm not ashamed to admit it.

  5. SWozniak says Never saw the movie. I came upon the .mp3 of this a while back, and kept it around (I don't even know if I ever listened to it). I listened to it yesterday (a coincidence, I assure you) and couldn't stop playing it. Just listened to the original...I don't like it.

  6. sugarbaby says The whole soundtrack is really good. The Killing Moon by Echo & the Bunnymen... Under the Milky Way by The Church... Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division. Reminds me of high school...
