Before Night Falls (Cello Song not on Soundtrack)

There are scenes in the movie, "Before Night Falls" where the sound effects track stops and this gorgeous cello music by Carter Burwell plays while we watch Javier Bardem sitting in a club while people dance around him, and the music tells us he is far away.It's a beautiful number, but it never made it onto the soundtrack.

For the last 8 years, I tried off and on to find out where I could get that music you are referring to. Last night, I was in the mood to search yet again and I came across your post here via an internet search. It was nice to know I was not alone.
So after some time searching, I decided an act of desperation was in order (lol) and emailed Carter himself and asked him about it. He said:
"I admit I don't know exactly what piece you're referring to - I haven't seen the film since it first came out. I think it may be by Laurie Anderson. But it's all a blur to me now..."
That was all I needed......the clue eventually led me to Lou Reed's 2000 album called "Ecstacy". On that album is a 1 minute track called "Rouge"....that's our track! And I am happy to say I finally can listen to that music without having to play the scene in the movie.
