So I saw Augie March last night and thought I'd tell you all about it. For those that don't know them, they're a bunch of fellas from Melbourne that have three albums to their name, and are currently touring the third. Moo You Bloody Choir, which recently won the Australian Music Prize. It's a good record, too, deserving of an award, but it's even better live, as the gig, at Sydney's Metro Theatre, was to prove. There were highlights and lowlights, the former far outweighing the latter. If I had one criticism, it would be the middle of the set lost a bit of momentum. But I think the guys, playing for about an hour and a half, simply had too long to play. The encores, though, were stunning. Glenn Richards's singing on Bottle Baby almost made me cry. It was absolutely beautiful. I had a tear, but it never trickled. I wanted to write more about how beautiful the performance of that song in particular was, but I cannot find the words. It was just outstanding. This Train Will Be Taking No Passengers, off the band's second album, Strange Bird, was brilliant in a less emotional sense, chugging along a searing pace with awesome volume and energy. Then there was Vermoona, my favourite song from the new album, which floored me again. So, so good. I beamed all the way home.A fine show, chaps, a fine show indeed, and I'll be looking forward to seeing you again sometime soon. Thank you.
