WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

Stupid Cupid

_Fucking hell_.When discussing Amy Winehouse, it's hard to talk _just_ about the music, but I'll try my darndest. The first time I saw Amy, on a TV show in 2005, she was covering Toots & the Maytal's _Monkey Man_. After her performance she walked straight into the audience and sat on the knee of her then-boyfriend, Alex Jones-Donnelly. I thought, nice song choice, shame about the submissivenes--(Okay, I've gone right off topic, there. I'll try again...)Little did I know then that she'd do far dodgier things with a chap than sit on his knee in publi--(Right, I really must try harder...)Her reggae cover of Cupid by Sam Cooke, by contrast, sounds blissfully innocent. A lovely, warm vocal performance, you can almost sense Amy smiling over the first few bars. (Good!)Indeed, it's nice to hear Amy sounding happy, what with her new hubbie Blake Fielder-Civil being sent to prison yesterday for perverting the course of justic--(I give up.)_Oh, for fuck's sake_

  7. FluxCapacitor says @ Dz - I EAT BEEHIVEZ! @ Soulrocket- Oh, that girl is trouble, all right! But the talent is there, as you say. A great cover artist, yet quite an original herself. @ Debi - You mean, she has a _singing_ life?! @ Michael - Funny you mention tabloids. I used to be a football columnist with the Daily Mirror. Hackery is in my blood! @ Jules - And a warning to all courting-age ladies that a double-barrel surname does not a prince make. @ Ilay -

  11. FluxCapacitor says @ Sunshine - Are you laughing at me avatar?! Yep, cupid is definitely stupid in all our lives, at some point or other -- I can relate Amy (and so can my exes)! @ Darla & Anna - Blimey, you guys have a taste for blood (like a zombie hubby, in fact). But I wouldn't get further than one word following Pete's recent drug-related exertions. And Sunshine's right -- I did give the chap a gentle ribbing "here.":http://mog.com/FluxCapacitor/blog_post/112130

  12. HelenMarie says Love the new avatar!! Something about the look in your eye and smirk in your smile that made me titter a bit. I had only seen the red zone in you so it was a pleasant surprise to see a different look, both are great pic's evenso! *; )*

  15. FluxCapacitor says Heh, heh. I see plenty young ladies dressed up as her in the bars and clubs of Dublin...all year 'round.

  16. Sauce says Brilliant, nice choice. Amy's got some serious 'tude in this one. And yes, private lives are better kept as just that...unless its reeaally juicy!

  17. FluxCapacitor says Hah! Private lives should be gossiped about in private! And yes...the music!....she's made it her own, all right. Sam would be proud (unless they get the tabloids in heaven).

  18. Lizziegreeneyes says Ya know... now that I think on it, there were a few ladies dressed closer to Amy Winehouse than myself as I sat with my friend in a pub in Cork last summer... made me feel less of a woman till I saw all of them stumble out into the streets and on to their next bar to meet up with some other mates... I think I can remember the heights of each of them (with & _WITHOUT_ stilettos), names, astrological signs... if only for the fact that they were quite loud... so glad I am not louder when drunk (I am loud all the time - too many years on the stage I am afraid) !!! Great post as always *Colin* !!!

  20. darmuzz says Sunshine and Flux, You are quite right, I read the post about Pete and commented on it - but one could always keep some jabs at Pete in reserve for another time, right? Hmm, what other musically talented wastoids can we pick on?

  21. FluxCapacitor says @ Lizzie—You got around in Ireland, didn’t you? I was in Cork last month visiting a buddy, I think the Cork women are so relaxed, funny and friendly…and if they dress like Amy, all the better. And you’re loud? I’d never have guessed! You’re personality really shines through onscreen, I feel like I almost know you. And, hey, you are a stage hoofer?! Great! Played any parts I’d know? @ Mike - Wow, you’ve squeezed a record amount of compliments in there, thanks. It's is a lovely version, all right. @ Darla—Hmm. Is anybody making fun of Britney?

  28. Lizziegreeneyes says Can say the same bout the lads... but for me that was true all around. Had one twosome at the EP that were rather rude (givin me shite cuz I was a sodding American), but as I said - love the country, love the people, love knowing my family is from there :) Thanks, I'm thrilled to hear it !!! I was Ms. February in February on trial (my first stage role) heh... done a few musicals Babes in Arms, Unsinkable Molly Brown, Once Upon a Mattress. Pericles (Shakespeare), The Princess Bride, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man in the Moon Marigolds, Saint Joan. Gave it up after college (on stage that is).

  34. FluxCapacitor says @ Mike -- Hahahaha! @ Lizzie - You'll always get one or two gobshites, thinking they're experts on international politics 'cos they've seen a Michael Moore film, hating America while wearing Converse and listening to Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Truth is most Irish people are fascinated by and love America (I know I do), it's been very good to us in so many ways, not least driving our Celtic Tiger economy. And that's a terrific amount of roles you played, fair play to ya!

  40. FluxCapacitor says I know, but we shouldn't. These people are suffering from a disease called addiction. It's no respecter of money or status. Rich and poor fall into the same traps. I think we make fun because we think they're doing these crazy things deliberately...but that would be insane. So, in short -- shame on the lot of you!!
