They say he can’t sing, can’t rap, wears wack clothes, and isn’t street enough. Now Kanye West has turned to face the haters, looked ‘em right in the eye, and agreed with everything they said.Well, almost. They also think he can't write a decent rhyme to safe his life, and cite as exhibit A “Like Kathy Lee need Regis, that’s the way I need Jesus!†They complain, too, about his “samplesâ€. Or as his detractors call 'em, “whole songs.†But West, on soulful new album track _Everything I Am_, lets both slights go.However he freely admits “I’ll never be a pitch-perfect Beyonce…I’ll never be as laidback as this beat…I'll never rock mink boots in the summertime like Will.I.Am...†Smart is one thing we know Kanye _is_. So, the clever twist? Those chump points have made him a champ. As the hook smoothly points out, “Everything I’m not, made me everything I am.â€But he's not just daring-do with his own shortcomings. West points out those of his rivals and of the rap game itself. And boy, for a pink-sweater-wearing p&%£y, they sure hit home!Biff! _I could never understand why people reach for/ a fake-ass façade that they couldn’t keep up_Bop! _People talk so much shit about me in barber shops/They forget to get their haircut_Thud! _Just last year Chicago had over 600 caskets/Man, killing some wack shit/except for when niggas is rappin_And it's the second time in a week old Carlton has hit this Mogger for six. His production job on the new Common record is primo (if not Primo) quality.Although he still can’t dance for toffee.

That's a neat song. I've heard that his new album isn't very good, but I so want to be a part of the Kanye vs. 50 showdown on the 11th, so I may just buy it that day anyway. I'm so conflicted b/c I love his music but I hate his arrogance. Oh well... It doesn't really matter if he talks sh*t, as long as he delivers the goods (and he usually does).
And if not, there's always The Go! Team!!!!!

Ditto your well-stated 'Bif!, Bop!, Thud!' assessment. Exquisitely smooth and clever track - I'm feelin' it Kanye. Smart indeed. Appreciate the post and listen!

Sunshine -- Separated at birth, right?! Really cool of you to cross-post like that. Thanks v much.
Lyrical -- Kanye's certainly got a way with a beat, arrogance nothwithstanding. But I find his output varies wildly and his off-key singing is hard to take. But when he's being this honest...and we've a chance to do give the bullet to 50 Cent (well, yet another bullet), then go, Kanye! And yeah, go the Go Team! as well.
GC -- Yeah, it's an exquisite beat, all right. I didn't expect to like it but his work on Common's soulful new album made me give it a try. I was surprised at his honesty and anger....and just had to give the Devil his due!
