Over the past few months I've been trying to expand my collection of music. The vast majority of music I have is modern music from the past few years, my collection was lacking some real classic and essential albums. I had Pet Sounds and a Essential Kinks Album but that was pretty much it.(plus some Rollin' Stones)

So I decided to expand my collection, ignoring more modern bands for a while to get these so called essential classic albums. Also I was encouraged by a scene in High Fidelity shouts where Jack Black is helping a customer and is shocked when he finds out the customer doesn't have Blonde on Blonde. Black reacts like the customer has taken part in some violent crime like kicking the face of a badger.

So over the recent months I've brought several albums expand to rectify this situation- Johnny Cash - The Legend (3CD boxset thingy) Beatles - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band The Who - Essential Collection Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland (essential for anyone learning guitar) Velvet Underground and Nico- Velvet Underground and of course Bob Dylan -Blonde on Blonde.

Plus I want to get Pulp - Greatest Hits. Certainly a more modern artist, maybes its British thing or something but I feel essential.

I have only scratched the surface of essential classic albums, so I hope some other MOGgers can give me some suggestions. So any suggestions for essential classic must-have in your collection albums/artists, modern or ancient (before 1986), post away!

"Don't tell anyone you don't own "Blonde on Blonde". It's gonna be okay. "

I think everyone should own: Troubadour by J.J. Cale Something by Can (Ege Bamyasi, Tago Mago, etc) Exodus by Bob Marley & The Wailers Marquee Moon by Television Mothership Connection by Parliament

and probably 100 others, but I don't want to overwhelm you...
