SOUNDS OF FUTURE PAST AND PRESENT PERFECT

HEEEEE HAAAAWWW!! Stephen Malkmus at Pitchfork.

Posted over 2 years ago
What the fuck was I thinking. Skipping the Pitchfork Music Festival. My favoritist-ist music artist of all time...Stephen Malkmus played a solo set. I knew he would probably pull out some suprises since he was Jick-less (minus his band). He surpassed that by more that a little. He stepped up and started the set with Heaven Is A Truck (old Pavement song. Whoa. I miss Pavement. From there he broke into one of my favorite songs SM has ever written. Blue Arrangements from his Silver Jews days. (listen below). He continued on with a few new songs, some more Pavement songs, and a few more Jicks songs. On top of all that, Bob Nastanovich (another former member of Pavement), came out and played drums a Trigger Cut and In The Mouth A Desert. The banter between those songs was classic. Basically SM introduces Nast, people cheer, then SM says 'lets play Trigger Cut' and breaks into it. Trouble is Bob didn't play drums on Trigger Cut (Pavement had 2 drummers and sometimes Bob played percussion or keyboards). So, it sounded like it for sure. Horrible drumming, but funny enough to make up for it. Luckily, Bob did play drums on In The Mouth...Can the Pavement reunion tour be that far off? I always say, I don't care if they ever get back together. But if they did, you would find me selling Grilled Cheese with Garlic to all the folks outside every venue they play.Enjoy. I'm sure I will post a few more songs from this show. Great, great, great stuff.
