While West Germans were wowing the world with Krautrock, East Germany was producing what became known as 'Ostrock'.
Less pioneering than what their capitalist neighbours were producing, Ostrock feature a lot more traditional instrumentation.
City's Am Fenster was recently voted the best German song of all time by some poll or other. The full album version is 17 minutes long, but the first seven of those contain two instrumentals that have nothing to do with the main song. Below is a ten-minute version someone has put online, missing out the guff at the start but doing the song the justice that the sub-four-minute single version cannot.
