So I am back from my very first trip to New York. Overwhelming is the first thing that comes to mind..but I mean that in a good way. My first night in the big city had me rushing up broadway to see Bjork. So I was one minute pumped to finally be in New York mixed with jetlag. The United Palace is gorgeous by the way, very elaberate, great setting...Heres the setlist: "Cover Me” “Earth Intruders” “Hunter” “Immature” “Dull Flame of Desire” “Oceania” “I See Who You Are” “Pleasure is All Mine” “Pagan Poetry” “Bachelorette” “Army of Me” “Innocence” “Wanderlust” “Hyperballad” “Pluto” “Declare Independence” (encore)
So it being my first time seeing Bjork I of course loved it. The music snob in me though can always find faults even in her most favorite female singer. Most being is that she held back quiet a bit on her growls and shouts. Especially Pagan Poetry, which still brought me near tears, I expected a much bigger release then what was given to us. The arrangement for Army of Me was a great change of pase, having the brass band help out. THis is my least favorite song, I think from overkill, and so I appericated hearing it from a new angle. I just want to give a shout out to the chick behind me who "OH SHIT!" her way through the whole concert. She seemed to be more pumped then me to be there..I blame it on the jet lag though. No photos for your asses, because I was nose bleed...sorry.
So Rollingstone has yet another list, but this one I like.. Its 25 most under appericated atrists..Heres the list: 1. Tom Waits 2. The Replacements 3. Cheap Trick 4. Sonic Youth 5. Warren Zevon 6. Big Star 7. The Pharcyde 8. Roxy Music 9. Talking Heads 10. Bob Seger 11. Fugazi 13. The Cramps 14. The New York Dolls 15. The Band 16. The Cars 17. Pogues 18. Alice Cooper 19. Dinosaur Jr 20. Sleater-Kinney 21. Husker Du 22. Devo 23. Wilco 24. Tom Petty 25. Ween
I love this list actually. I remeber seeing Ween at Lolla and thinking why havent I heard more about this band, they were really good. Tucked away in the far back of the park, but rockin harder then Death Cab. Do you think Rolling Stone did a good job, 25 is a small number, so surely they left someone out?!
So a VERY brief update from yours truly...Anyone else heading to the City so nice they named it twice to see our fav icelandic pixie?! I've never been to New York, so this is just icing on this midwestern gal's traveling cake. Wish me luck, and I'll let ya know what I thought of the show..
Not hearing anything too new as of late..I do love love love the latest Modest Mouse. Watched some of the new stuff on You Tube and yes saw Isaac cutting himself..wha??Spitting Needles is my highlight on the whole album, very Built to Spill with a trumpet?!

i really love this list, but yeah, i would have liked to see 100 or something.
great list. i agree with the vast majority of it. i think there is an art to being an underappreciated band. sonic youth has managed to do it quite well, tom waits too. when you have been around as long as they have and made as big of an impact, it is mind boggling they are not bigger than they are. but then again, they made sure of that. ;) nice post.
