Eating metal

Posted almost 4 years ago

I have been on this tumultuous voyage into the dark corners of 'metal' these last few days. I think it's because Pig Destroyer have annuonced they're visiting Australia for the first time in October, which has me super excited even when I know I'll be the lone dweeb cowering in the corner amongst the tattoed metal fanatics. Sometimes I just need to hear the desperate screams of downtuned guitars chugging hell for leather, punishing my ears. I don't care what these bands are singing about, I just want the noise.

I love the fact that Pig Destroyer albums are confined to half an hour of relentless terror. They know that enough is enough, that the sound is all the more scary when it's taken away from you before you're desensitised to its charms. I love they way their latest album, Phantom Limb, ends with with the sound of crickets and frogs on a desolate highway - you can almost smell the dust and cobwebs in Bates Motel.

Carcass, Slayer's Reign in Blood, Dillinger Escape Plan, Dark Throne and a little bit of Wolf Eyes thrown in for good measure.

Hardly putting myself in the mood to see Lightspeed Champion play live next Wednesday!
