YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

Last night as I was updating my mp3 collection by adding release dates and such, I made an interesting discovery. I had already been vaguely aware that the vocalist of Sepultura had been replaced by another at some point. Upon discovering that it was between the Roots and Against albums, I began to compare the two vocalists. I found rather quickly that Max Cavalera, the original frontman, was much better than his replacement, Derrick Green.
I had also found that Cavalera had started a new band when he left Sepultura, Soulfly, a band that I was somewhat aware of. Now interested in Max Cavalera and his voice, I began to listen to a good amount of Soulfly. It wasn't long before I realized something. Soulfly is NOWHERE near as good as Sepultura.
Sepultura had a quality and an energy to it that made the band great. They stood out among others and you could hear their talent as musicans. However, Soulfly lacks that energy. Their music sounds flat, as if they aren't really into it. It's hard to describe but when you listen to Max singing with Sepultura followed by Max singing with Soulfly, it's very obvious.
In short, Soulfly is an okay band, but when compared to Cavalera's previous work, it's a disapointment. At the bottom, you'll find a track called Tribe off of the band's debut, self-titled record. Listen to it after or with Sepultura in mind, and you should understand how Max has us down.
