The Stills Will Rise

Posted over 3 years ago

I'm thrilled to be the first to review the new Stills record.

As with any release, The Stills Oceans Will Rise requires some serious grow time. Our friends from Montreal have put out two stellar records preceding this one and this third LP is as growth oriented as any "junior" record. Fortunately for me, it only took a day and a half to succumb to the lush and deep sounds of a record in the making for at least two years. This record is filled with sonically pleasing sounds, an optimistically saddened tone, and layered melodies. I have got to say "Statues of Sirens" is beautiful and "Everything I Build" musically flourishes. Even the emusic bonus track, "Good News Bible" is not, I repeat NOT a throwaway.

These guys also deserve a little more recognition. After Montreal blew up a few years ago w/ some great music, The Stills still (npi) play small clubs but pack into their live shows not only fantastic musicianship but also memorable melodies and straight ear candy, lyric-wise. Give 'em a listen if you never have...and if you have heard of them, then you already know what you're missing. Superb new record!

I'm an idiot when it comes to posting stuff.  Not quite sure how to...?  Any tips how to do this?

Hey Eric - It's a good start to have an mp3 version.  Then once you tag your post click on the audio tab to the right.  Even if the rhapsody machine picks up your tag.  I usually like to ignore it and upload my own file so the overseas moggers can hear the full tune.

Or a video is sometimes easier to embed.

Nice "melodies and straight ear candy" I'd say...thanks for bringing these guys up.

Thanks for the heads up and thanks for posting this.  This is going to take some practice.  I've got a lot to learn in the digital world.  I appreciate the insight.  Is there a way to inbed an mp3 after a posting?  I suppose there is...

Sure...if you edit the post then upload the mp3, it should work just fine. It use to be nice and simple to add a song in comments, but I didn't get the code quite right the last time I tried.  The forum has details on that though.  And no problem, glad I could offer the little tiny bit of insight that I have here.

By the way...you can snag the embed code for video's from youtube (usually to the right of the video) and just paste it in the post or comments.

OK. I finaly got it.  I have always been looking at the toolbar above the comments thinking there was some complex inbeding/hyperlinking process to posting songs, photos and videos.  Now it all makes sense.  Thanks for the clear and detailed heads up.  You'll see more songs, video and pictures from me in the future now.
