Which Animal Will Bands Embrace This Year?

Posted over 2 years ago

Every few years there will be an influx of bands who take on animal names as part of their name. Often times, though not purposely, these bands release albums in clusters - according to the animal name. For example, a few years ago, Wolf Eyes, We Are Wolves, Wolfmother and Wolf Cub popped. It seemed as if last year it was the year of the dear. The Dears, Dearhoof, Dearhunter, Dear Tick, Lonely Dear (OK, that one doesn't really count) got some attention last year. Are bats taking over? The Bats, Bat for Lashes, Over the years, dogs have come and gone - That Dog, all the rapper "dogs" including Snoop Dogg (still here I guess), The Black Dog.

Maybe animals proper will be "it." - Animal Collective, Plants & Animals, Tiny Animals, Super Furry Animals (of course there are other "Animals" from decades gone by, cue The Muppet Show music or "Bring it On Home to Me").

I'm aware that this is the year of the Ox, but is it?

top 5 albums with animals in the name:

    1. Beck - Midnight Vultures

    2. Mountain Goats - self titled

    3. The White Stripes - Elephant

    4. The National - Alligator

    5. Eels - Meet the Eels

    honorable mentions:

Girl Talk - Feed the Animals

Deer Tick - War Elephant (I had to kill two birds with one stone - this was just too good)

Phish - Farmhouse (is that close enough?) haha

CSS - Donkey (what an awesome name for an album - almost as good as elephant ;)

We'll just assume Phish meant to spell their name like that to differentiate from those w/ gills...

Putting The Beatles in there might be a little tired and corny but these are all good ones.

Also, honorable mentions, The Dandys' Welcome to the Monkey House, Yusef (pre-Islam) Tea for Tillerman, B&S Tigermilk, Band of Horses Everything All The Time and I'm sure Anna would have us put Arctic Monkeys somewhere on there...

    :)

    Without going on allmusic...

    As Tall As Lions

    Pedro the Lion

    That's all I've got.

This reminds me of something I used to do w/ band names, sort of 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon but w/ the name of the band

    For example

    Box Car Racer

    Boy Hits Car

    Fall Out Boy

    Boy Sets Fire

    Sunny Day Sets Fire

    A Sunny Day in Glasgow

    Sunny Day Real Estate

    Green Day
