First Post Ever - 764-HERO

I wonder whether anyone with this phone number has ever been pranked called or if any lawsuits have risen from the band name?

I know very little about 764-HERO. What I do know is that I snagged a promo copy of their record Get Here and Stay sometime in late '98/early '99. The location? A promo pile at Tower Records (that was one of the perks of being the person who switched out the monthly listening stations).

Either way, I've done zero research on this band. I just know they sound a lot like Built to Spill (although maybe Built to Spill sounds a lot like them - not sure who came first). They did a one song EP (w/ a couple remixes) the same year they released this LP, alongside Modest Mouse titled Whatever You See Fit. I suppose these two bands colloborated on the song.

Either way, "History Lessons" is a decent song (I wouldn't say it's a 5 star song), but it's good enough. Fans of the mid to late 90's college rock era - Pavement, Modest Mouse, etc. will probably appreciate this.

That's cool.  Were they touring w/ a band you wanted to see?  I don't think they're together anymore.

they were opening for a band and I am going to go through my ticket stubs to see who it was for. I just remember thinking how funny it would be to call their number after the show...... never did.

They remind me of the Posies. And in my house that's a great thing.

Man, you've been a Mogger for TWO YEARS? Have you been an infrequent post-er or am I just unobservant?

The Poises - that's a great comparison!  I didn't even think of them.

I'd say the first year there were scattered posts and in the past year, I've picked it up.  Always dry spells peppered here and there but the new year (and the new MOG look) has really motivated me to push toward 100.  I really didn't add very many trusted Moggers over the past 12 months or so either, so that might be part of it.

i don't know much, but i do know their band name is the number you're supposed to call to report people who are driving in the carpool lane who aren't carpools. i don't know how that makes you a hero, but apparently it does. and i'm pretty sure they are from where i am...seattle!

Interesting - I did not know that, Ardyjormkiv...I think they are indeed from Seattle so it must be a local thing...
