This week's song from the Best of Great Songs Period. Playlist is by Canadian born songwriter, Patrick Watson. Although not in the same caliber as Jeff Buckley, Watson is certainly reminiscent and sings in the same vein as our friend who is no longer with us.
I remember clearly how I discover Patrick Watson. He was one of roughly 1,500 artists playing SXSW '07. I made it my mission to listen to all (or most) of these artists, be it :05, :30, or more of a myspace song or something. I passed on obnoxious names and genres beyond my liking (yes, I don't care for every genre). Anyway, Watson stood out amongst many others and he was one of about 40 acts I was able to check out in '07 in Austin. I remember not Kurt Loder but the other guy - John something (from the 90's school MTV era) taking notes on his performance. I also remember being somewhat disappointed by the overall live performance - perhaps it was the acoustics of Emo's for a songwriter, the fact that it was an mid-afternoon performance, or maybe he's really just better on CD (or 180 gram vinyl or MP3). Either way, my pick for this week is still The Great Escape.
The Great Escape grabs you w/ its melody. It's sincerity goes far beyond the lyrics and it's a safe bet to say that this is my favorite Patrick Watson track. He has a new album dropping the first week in May, so maybe in a few weeks, I'll find a more enticing song. For now, The Great Escape it is. Let me know what you think.
My boy is awake. I hear him talking to himself. Gotta run.

wow, it is early here and I am sitting at my desk listening with a cup of coffee and I do not think any song could sound better than this one right now
Glad you like it and enjoy that coffee! Lovin' the new look. Much more slick.
it is, still finding all sorts new things to look at
Did not know a new album was on its way. The last one was one of my top night-time listens.
Yeah, I haven't heard anything off of it yet. I'll have to try to find something to see what it's like.
Here's a link to a new track...http://sixeyes.blogspot.com/2009/04/patrick-watson-man-like-you-mp3.html
