The Jesus & Mary Chain- Between Planets - Featured Song # 1: Best of Great Songs Period. Playlist

Posted 7 months ago

I'm a playlist junkie. I have to make a playlist for everything. I thought it would be cool to share a track (the more unexpectant, the better), from my Great Songs Period. mix. Actually, I had to create a Best of Great Songs Period. playlist because not all of the songs in my Great Songs Period mix are 5 1/2 stars out of 5 stars. They're just 5 stars.

Long story short, each week, I'll try to include a track from my Best of Great Songs Period. Mix. I'll try to recall where I discovered the band. You can do the same and please do rate it to your liking.

This week, I had to go w/ a staple (sorry). The Jesus & Mary Chain aren't a band I've known and loved forever. In fact, I got Automatic from a Lala trade a year or two ago and did the same w/ a gift card iTunes purchase w/ Pyschocandy. "Between Planets" is fantastic -it's upbeat, it has a good hook and most importantly it rolls like no other J&MC song. I almost shelled out $50 to see 'em on their reunion tour in NYC, but I figure they were much better back in the day. I did know of "Head On" from the late 80's but never checked out their other material. "Head On" was on a 120 Minutes Nevermind the Mainstream vol. 1 (or 2) comp. I've owned it forever. One of my favorite comps. Regardless, "Between Planets" now holds a dear place in my rock 'n roll heart. Enjoy and please do comment on your liking (or not) of this fantastic song.

"Between Planets" blew me away the first time I got Automatic. Such a great song, I still have it on my workout playlist on the iPod.

It's amazing. In the J&MC field, I have Dale to thank. He gave me so much psychocandy.

Always take psychocandy from friends :)

Kevin - yeah, there are comps but they will never live up to that Nevermind the Mainstream series.  I still remember getting it used for $7.99 at Toad Records in Severna Park, MD, which has been gone for at least 15 years now.

Dale - "Between Planets" is another stand out track, agreed.  Interestingly enough, I had J&MC on while working out that inspired this post.

Anna - Dale seems to have that "ear candy" effect on people w/ his tastes, always can trust whatever he throws out there.

Yeah, whatever. Now I've got Automatic up loud on the headphones, in a desperate attempt to stay awake.
