Scottish Hardcore for Brit Pop Fans?

Not quite hardcore. Those familiar w/ Idlewild (like I) need to check out what I can only imagine is one of their first releases - Hope Is Important is unlike anything else I've heard from this Scotish, almost brit-pop outfit.
Half of the songs are melodic but a little rough around the edges. The other half are rough around the edges, raw and choatic. Closer in sound to Minor Threat than REM in my opinion. It's worth a check. I just discovered this early release of their's and it's pretty invigorating and does not incapsulate their later work. At all.

I know. I bought it used and I'm shocked what I heard. There is some good stuff on this release.
