WHERE MUSIC IS WORTH MORE THAN MONEY

...and everything is fine. My hard drive bit the dust last week, rendering any MOG-o-Magicism pretty much useless. To be fair, the little drive was much-abused. I've been running the thing on max capacity for months.

All of my music is alive and well and backup-ed and still hasn't been played since the crash, 'cause I have decided to take an _old-familiar-music_ hiatus. I got a few new albums and have decided to listen to all of them the whole way through more than once. Let them sink in. This is a wild departure from the way I've been consuming music for the past few years (track by glorious track). I'm finding it pretty soothing.

The albums (new to my collection-- not "new" new) I'm listening to: The Mountain Goats-- Sunset Tree Mirah-- Advisory Committee Devendra Banhart-- Rejoicing in the Hands Destroyer-- Destroyer's Rubies

_in the car_: Smittens-- A Little Revolution

I've listened to The Mountain Goats and Smittens the most.

question for the MOG-O-Sphere: Are occasional music purges necessary?

I need to draw some new music related images... I've also just spent the last 3 hours with both of my latest obsessions: Veronica Mars and knitting. Neither is conducive to drawing.

Purges are never necessary, unless they are preceded by binges. So if you are not a frequent music binger, I'd say no purges. I like the "high" rotation versus the "low" rotation approach. All low rotation stuff gets put in a binder and neatly stacked away for a rainy day. The fun begins when you go back to it and rediscover your old gems.

I've sort of been on an uninterrupted music binge for a while now. I'm just taking a little breather. But yes, agreed. I think I'm gonna start adding stuff back slowly so i can reacquaint myself with the rest of my stuff. rainy day music is the best.

Every now and again I take a music breather, but usually because of outside circumstances. I took a break when I went to college, because I was too busy, um, studying, or something, to really get into new music. But I have this feeling that no matter where life takes me, music will somehow always be a part of it.

I go through those cycles too, where I'll go months without buying anything and then get tons of new music all at once. Some of it invariably gets lost in the shuffle, and it's a lot harder now that I almost exclusively listen to just digital music. It's nice that I don't have to lug around a binder of CDs to work each day, but if it's not on my mp3 player it's more likely to be "forgotten".

Mountain Goats are playing at the Black Cat in a few weeks, are you going to that show?

Yeah, no kidding; I'm actually leaving soon for tonight's show, and I'll be at Band of Horses tomorrow, too. So many shows I'm looking forward too...

Good to hear all is backed up, which is usually the bane of the casual user. Oh and I find Veronica Mars very conducive to the creative process of throwing ink, and or paint on paper.
