WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

What Is Playing in My Car These Days: Field Music

Posted over 3 years ago
For the past month or two, I have been listening to the same cd over and over again in my car. This is partially due to the fact that I am terrible at maintaining physical cds so I'll leave one in the player for ages so it won't (inevitably) end up on the floor, but mostly because I am an obsessive listener. I don't really drive that much, so the music forms a little 5 minute buffer between home and work. Earlier this year, I went for months listening to _Georgie James_-- before that, _Electric Six_. It is hard for me to predict what the next winner will be, but I have slightly different criteria than I do for my non-car music. I need to enjoy the whole album (a notable exception is when I listened to Electric Version by _The New Pornographers_ for a semester a few years ago and skipped "July Jones" every time). I need to feel good listening to it.I only just found out that I have been listening to _Field Music_. They are British and poppy and have a 60's-ish retro sound. I really like their song "Pieces", but I am a sucker for lyrics and the part that goes "the hair on my hands is gettin' thicker" is touching. The album really doesn't have any weak tracks. The songs skip along and are pretty upbeat. The video is "If Only the Moon Were Up":http://static.memphis-industries.com/fieldmusicvid.mov. Enjoy.

  1. EmergencyTrap says I like Field Music, even though they sound just like The Shins. My happy driving music is usually Islands or Architecture in Helsinki. Thanks for the video, I hadn't seen it. Very cool grainy effect.

  2. DerekSunshine says I had a couple of weeks last month spent listening to "Parts & Labor":http://www.partsandlabor.net/av.html during the drive into work . Needless to say, they were rough weeks. Field Music probably would have shaved the harsh off those mornings. Have you checked out "Voxtrot":http://noyetidance.blogspot.com/2006/02/new-voxtrot-mp3.html or the Guillemots?
