Pan's Labyrinth chaser

Posted over 2 years ago
Also, I saw Pan's Labyrinth last night. I really enjoyed it, but it felt sort of incomplete. Then I got in the car to go home and "Stand by your Man" started playing. It was so wildly inappropriate that it was the perfect post-movie chaser. Try it. Keep your nightmares at bay with a sunny revisionist perspective. From "Wikipedia":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revisionist "Revisionism in fiction is the retelling of a story or type of story with substantial alterations in character or environment"I take no responsibility if it makes you queasy.

  1. Sturgell says Sort of incomplete? What do you want? The bad guy dies, the little girl is crowned and the Franco regime later falls. That's not just a "wrap", it's got a bow on it.

  2. Emily says I actually liked the end. I've liked everything I've seen by the director. 'Incomplete' may have sounded more critical than I meant it to be. I'll risk sounding more critical just to flesh it out... The visuals were striking and epic-- the story was very compact. Most of the emotional punch (at least for me), came from the horrific violence onscreen, not from resonance with any of the characters. I joked when I heard the song in the car 'that they should have put it in the film during the credits. When I thought about it in light of the mother's relationship with the captain, it was so perverse, I had to share. I have "Cronos":http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104029/trailers-screenplay-E21412-10-2 in next to my video player for when I get home tonight.
